Newcastle Women’s Aid has a children’s service which provides practical and emotional support for women and children during their stay in the refuge.

What we can provide for children

  • A warm, friendly, and welcoming environment

  • A well resourced playroom for children aged 0-16

  • A separate children’s lounge

  • A garden with play equipment

  • Two qualified Children’s Workers

  • Organised play sessions

  • Holiday trips and activities

  • One-to-one support sessions

  • Children’s house meetings

  • Help with school issues

What we can provide for women

  • Informal advice and support

  • One-to-one parenting support sessions

  • Practical information around their children and parenting issues

What we can provide for other agencies

  • Partnership working

  • Informal sessions about our service

  • Awareness-raising sessions about children’s experiences of domestic violence

The Children’s Service is registered and inspected by Ofsted, and follows strict polices and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of all children.
