Who we are
Newcastle Women’s Aid will do all we can to respect your right to privacy and to the protection of our personal information.
The information we use
We collect and process various types of personal information such as name and contact details. This information is used to provide you with a range of services including; advice, information and support services. We record the information you give to us and store it securely.
We also use personal information to process donations and other payments and to claim Gift Aid on donations
Sensitive Personal information
Data Protection Law recognises that some categories of personal information are more sensitive, this can include information about a person’s health, sexual orientation, race, ethnic origin, political opinions or religious beliefs. If you provide us with sensitive personal information we will only use this for the purposes of dealing with your enquiry. We will not pass on your details to anyone else without your express permission except for exceptional circumstances as outlined in our consent form and confidentiality policy.
Your rights
You have a number of legal rights to control what we do with your information. For example, you can ask us to tell you what information we have about you and you can request a copy of it. You can also ask us to stop contacting you by post, email or telephone or withdraw any specific consent you gave us. You can ask us to rectify any errors in your personal information or erase any information (or altered so that you are not identifiable) under specific circumstances prescribed by law. You can ask us to provide you or a third party with some of the personal information that we hold about you. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
Sharing information outside of Newcastle Women’s Aid
We will never sell or share your personal information with organisations that may use it for marketing activities.
We will keep your personal information confidential as detailed within our support/ consent contract and confidentiality policies. We will inform you if there is a need to contact a third party and the reasons for this. We will always seek to gain your consent prior to contacting third parties unless there are risks as detailed in our confidentiality policy.
Our lawful bases for processing your information are:
- Consent: you have given clear consent to process your personal data for a specific purpose.
- Legitimate interests: the processing is necessary for your legitimate interests or the legitimate interests of a third party unless there is a good reason to protect the individual’s personal data which overrides those legitimate interests.
Legal Disclosure
If required to do so by law we may disclose your information to comply with laws or regulations or disclose information in response to a valid request from a lawful authority.
Marketing
We will not send you any marketing information unless you request this.
Communications
We will use the contact details and method you have provided to us to send you any information relevant to the support that we are providing to you.
How long will we keep your information
We will not keep your information for longer than we need to, which is usually six years after your support with NWA has ended, unless we are required to keep it for longer e.g. due to court proceedings or investigations by law enforcement agencies or regulators.
We may be required to fulfil statutory requirements in respect of, for example, the collection of Gift Aid
